Plastic limit is the limit on maximum water content at which a reduction in water content does not cause an appreciable reduction in volume of the Soil Mass.Further reduction in water, makes the air  to enter in to the voids of soil keeping the volume constant.This is called shrinkage limit.One can easily calculate shrinkage limit ,shrinkage ratio,volumetric shrinkage and shrinkage index using the apparatus available with us.
