The board illustrates the underlying principle of Interference and Undercutting. When the teeth move in anticlockwise direction, the teeth is undercut allowing frictionless working of the gear profile. In contrary, when the teeth move in in clockwise direction, it can be noticed that the rack tip is resisted by the tooth flank which results in interference.
