This natural syphon type recording rain gauge is designed togive continuous record of rain fall. It is generally used inconjunction with an ordinary rain gauge (non recording type)exposed close by Rain water enters the gauge at the top of the cover and is carried through the funnel tofloat chamber provided with a float. Therecording pen is mounted on the stem of thefloat. As the water level rises in the receiver,the float rises and the pen records rain on achart placed on a clock drum which revolvesonce in 24 hours.The recording mechanism is mounted on thebase and the base cover is provided with a gunmetal rim ofabout 203 mm. dia. The funnel lifts of the base and carrieshasp which is engaged with a staple on the base and padlocked. an angle iron piece with foundation bolt is providedfor anchoring the rain gauge base to the ground. Thedimensions of the base, collector, funnel, float chamber, floatetc. are as per ISI specialization No. 5235, 1969 and also asper IMD specification No. 60A. The unit is supplied with 100graph paper sheet, a phial of special recording ink, recordingpen, filter, clock movement with drum and key, float chamberwith float, foundation angle iron and literature booklet.
