It consists of a 60 cm deep collector having an read of 500cm2 mounted inside an Alter pattern wind shield one meter indiameter. The gauge with its shield is installed on standsupport so that the orifice of the collector is at a height of 1.5cm. above the ground when installed on a concrete platformrising 10 cm. from ground level. Solid precipitation collectedin the gauge is melted and the precipitation in millimeters ismeasured using the measure glasses. It is based on ISIspecification No. 6806-1973..
