This is for determining theshear strength of both remoulded and undisturbed soils. It consists of a torque head adjustable in height to enable thevane to be lowered into the specimen.Rotation of the vane is by means of a hand wheel whichoperates a worm gear arrangement s turning the upper end ofa calibrated torsion spring. The vane shaft is attachedthrough the hollow upper shaft to a resettable pointer whichIndicates the angle of torque on dial graduated in degrees.The dial reading multiplied by spring factor gives the torque. Acontainer is also supplied complete with a set of springs oneach 01 approx. 2 kg. cm. 4 kg. cm ; 6 kg. and 8 kg. cm.
